‘Hitman can beat Pacman’

HATTON’S new trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. believes that British combatant Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton will dominate over Filipino world champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao when both boxers face off in the ring on May 2.

Even before negotiations for the fight have been settled, Mayweather Sr., the former trainer of ring legend Oscar De La Hoya, has already made bold statements that his ward, Hatton, will defeat the current pound-for-pound king, Pacquiao.

“I believe Ricky can stop Pacquiao,” said Mayweather Sr. in a report posted at The Sun.

Better fighter

The former trainer and father of retired boxing superstar Floyd Jr. thinks that Hatton is the better fighter and he will get the upper hand over the 30-year-old Filipino boxing icon.

“The best man will win the night, but it’s my man who’s going to be the best. Pacquiao is not going to be the best fighter that night,” said Mayweather Sr.
Although Hatton can’t tame Pacquiao’s speed, Mayweather said that they will cripple his jab, one of Pacquiao’s main weapons.

“I can’t take that (speed) away from Pacquiao. But if there’s one thing that Ricky will take away from him, it will be his jab.

Mayweather believes that the 30-year-old British fighter has an edge over Pacman—strength.

“Ricky is stronger than Pacquiao and I have a whole lot of strategy,” explained Mayweather Sr.

Venue

Although the venue isn’t official as of now, both camps have agreed to have the blockbuster event in Las Vegas.

“Ricky’s preference was the U.K., but he’s realized that was not the best place for this fight, just like the Philippines [Pacquiao’s home country] wasn’t,” Schaefer said.

“This is right in the middle,” Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told the Los Angeles Times.

The promoters of the mammoth event, Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, have yet to determine which venue in Las Vegas they will hold the fight, but they have two choices, the MGM Grand or the Thomas and Mack Center. (EKA)
