THE officials and coaching staff of the University of Cebu (UC) and Southwestern University (SWU) will launch the ‘Match of the Titans’ basketball event today.

The event, which will be on July 12 at the Cebu Coliseum, pits the two schools, which fought for the title in the Partners Cup last summer.

UC head coach Roel Gomez and SWU mentor Dodie Miego, together with their players and representatives of the UC Law Students Society (UCLASS), will join UC basketball team manager Baldomero Estenzo in a press conference today at the Sunburst restaurant to discuss the event.

After the Partners Cup clash, the two teams teamed up in the Cesafi Friendship Cup, where they battled Ateneo de Manila University, Pampanga and Cebu Landmaster.

The game is one way to usher the 2009 season of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., which is scheduled to open next month.

The event is also spearheaded by UCLASS.

The proceeds of the event will be used for UCLASS’s bar operations this October.
