A GANG of five was accused of raping a mentally retarded woman in Medellin town. Four of the five were arrested.

The woman, who is in her twenties, was reportedly offered drinks before five men, one of them a minor, took turns raping her.

That same day, an 18-year-old woman accused her boyfriend’s friend of raping her after they had a drinking binge in Barangay Lawaan III, Talisay City.

Police arrested a taxi driver whom the woman identified as her attacker.

In the Medellin case, the woman’s sister complained to the police station Saturday afternoon and said her sister was very friendly with strangers and often went willingly without question.

She accused the five of offering her sister drinks and taking advantage of her when she got drunk.

Her sister reportedly went with Ricky Abello Lanurias, 30, Friday evening to Sitio Panas, Barangay Lamintak Sur.

Ricky, however, denied taking part in any gang rape. He also said he did not see the other companions taking advantage of the girl.

Also arrested were his cousin Edison Monleon Lanurias, 25, a 17-year-old boy and Enriquito Beno Bohol, 20. At large is Roy Sabala.

Ricky said he only saw Bohol touching the girl while the others were drinking liquor in a mango orchard.

Ricky narrated that he was familiar with the girl because they were neighbors. He first saw her talking to Bohol. He later joined the group drinking and looked for Bohol and the girl, but did not find them.

Past midnight, he said Bohol and the girl joined the group. He claimed he asked them where they went and Bohol told him they were just nearby.

Moments later, they left the group again until Ricky decided it was time to go home.

Ricky said he went looking for the girl and caught Bohol molesting her.

However, Chief Insp. Bonifacio Arriesgado, chief of the Medellin Police Station, said they finished gathering the statements of the girl and her sister and she identified all five as the ones who touched her.

Police will be bringing the girl to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center today for an examination before they will file a rape case against the five.

Boyfriend’s pal

In the Talisay case, Elaine (not her real name), a resident of C. Padilla, Cebu City, told police on Saturday that taxi driver Michael Cañete, 33, allegedly forced himself upon her when she, her boyfriend and the suspect were having drinks in Sitio Crusher in Barangay Lawaan III.

Cañete is a friend of the victim’s boyfriend, said SPO1 Arturo Andales of the Talisay City Police Station.

Elaine was allegedly having drinks with her boyfriend in the latter’s house, when Cañete came by to join them. After a few drinks, the boyfriend decided to sleep while the two continued drinking.

It was then that Cañete allegedly pounced on Elaine and forced himself on her before leaving.

Elaine reported the assault to the Talisay City Police Station, and Andales and other operatives immediately tried to pursue Cañete.

Hours later, Cañete was caught inside his house by Andales and was brought to the police station for questioning.

The complainant was advised to get a medical certificate, which can be used as evidence.

Cañete is currently under lock and key in the Talisay City substation in Barangay Mohon, while charges are being prepared against him.
