Reporter Nancy R. Cudis won the Best in News Writing award.

In the tabloid category, Sun.Star Super Balita won Best in Editorial Writing, Best in Editorial Commentary by columnist Bobby Nalzaro, Best in Editorial Reporting by the Children’s Legal Bureau and Best in Editorial Cartooning.

Sun.Star’s online publication also won for the Sun.Star Network Exchange the Best Corporate Website award. The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. won the Best Institutional Website award.

Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal said the Camma aims to showcase “the practice of the delivery of the truth.”

Quoting Pope Benedict XVI, he urged the media to use the medium not only to promote “a global village of neighbors, but of brothers and sisters.”

He highlighted the power of new media in society, so that even revolutions are no longer done by propaganda alone, but by messages passed on through texting.

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde, who was the keynote speaker, warned against the use of technology to promote chaos instead of promoting dialogue and friendship.

Other winners in the print category are The Freeman for Best in Column Writing (Fr. Roy Cimagala) and Best in Feature Writing (Archie Modequillo).

Banat News won Best in Investigative Reporting (Edwin Ian Melecio) and Best in Tabloid Reporting (Elias Bolonos).

Cebu Daily News won the awards for Best in Editorial Writing and Best in Editorial Cartooning.

In the radio category, the Best Public Affairs Program is Super Bobby Nalzaro on Board for GMA 7.

Awards for Best TV Magazine Program and Best TV News Program went to ABS-CBN’s Maayong Buntag Kapamilya and TV Patrol Central Visayas, respectively.

The four-hour awarding ceremony was held at the Cebu Grand Convention Center and attended by media personalities, church officials and members of the academe.

The audience was entertained by performances from Cebuano world-class talents, like singer Izarzuri Vidal, the Mandaue City Children’s Choir and the University of the Visayas Chorale. (JKV)
