Sugbu Triathlon’s Ralph Arche, who is part of the organizing group, said they are still planning to extend the registration until Friday to accommodate more runners.
Organizers will limit the participants to 1,000 on a first come, first served basis because they believe limiting the number is good for the race.
Sugbu Triathlon, a group known for organizing triathlon events in Cebu, decided to organize this event to be able to generate interest from runners to engage in triathlon as well.
“We decided to organize this running event because we want also to introduce uphill extreme running which I believe will be a first time in the Philippine running scene” said Arche.
Arche added that running is one discipline in triathlon.
“This is also one way of making our presence felt and attracting more potential triathletes,” he said.
Cebu used to hold numerous triathlon events in the past but the sport has since taken a dive in popularty.
In an earlier interviw, Filipino-American triathlete Arland Macasieb said Cebu was once the mecca of triathlon and he encouraged organizers and athletes to bring back the glory days of the sport in Cebu.
For this Sunday’s race, the registration is P250 and covers a singlet and a 20 percent discount at Zipline. However, Arche said only the first 700 runners will get their singlets.
“The remaining 300 will receive only their race numbers and they can claim their singlet after the event at the Business Box, Ayala Center Cebu from April 5 to 10,” Arche said.
The releasing of the race packets will start today and will run until tomorrow.
It will be at the Active Zone from 4 to 8 p.m.
