Aboitiz Run dangles several treats

ABOITIZ Equity Ventures is giving all the runners a lot of reasons to race in the Aboitiz Race to Reduce Challenge 2010 set this Aug. 22 at at the Sugbu, South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City.

One is the chance to help the environment as one tree will be planted in the name of each runner in the nationwide Aboitiz Group tree-planting activity later this year.

Aside from this, all finishers will be given a five-minute massage from visually impaired masseurs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

"We have collaborated with DSWD for this. It will greatly help out their livelihood," said Aboitiz working committee head Jovy Tan.

On top of it all, the finishers will enjoy a hearty breakfast at the finish line and everyone will have their names and times printed in the local dailies, a first in Cebu.

"We are adapting what Spain has been doing in their races. So everyone's names, not just those who dominate the race, will be in the paper," said Carol Ballesteros.

They will also put up a photo wall at the finish line and it will also serve as a fund-raising project for the Aboitiz annual Christmas outreach program held every first week of December, where employees spend time with less fortunate children to spread Christmas cheers and joy.

Dubbed "the race for the next generation," where the event is being used as an information vehicle for Aboitiz's campaign on sustainability effort.

"We are not just promoting a healthy lifestyle, we want to leave a good home for the next generation," said Sebastian Lacson, Aboitiz's chief reputation officer.

The organizers want to encourage runners to reduce their consumption of power, water and paper.

The race will be using timing chips for the 21K and 10K categories.

The race will feature the 21K, 10K, 5K and 3K run in the men's and women's open divisions. There will be a division exclusive for the Aboitiz employees.

A whopping P10,000 awaits the top finisher in the 21K division and P5,000 in the 10K.
