After two losses: Beermen to reclaim sobriety

AFTER losing its first two games, the San Miguel Beermen refused to let hangover for winning the recent Fiesta Cup take its toll as they try to catch up with the early leaders in the 35th PBA-KFC Philippine Cup.

The Beermen seek their fifth straight win when they take on sister team Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Defending champion Talk ‘N Text tries to bounce back as it collides against Coca-Cola in the first game at 5 p.m.

Coach Siot Tanquingcen is ecstatic over their four straight victories, but this time they will be facing the Giants, who have regained confidence following their 108-102 triumph over the Tropang Texters last Sunday.

The Giants showed enough focus that enabled them to dominate the game against the Tropang Texters, whom they swept 4-0 in the last season.

Purefoods’ seriousness to bounce back after losing to the Asi Taulava-less Coca-Cola on Oct. 30 was shown after six players led by rookie Rico Maierhofer and veterans KG Canaleta, James Yap, Kerby Raymundo, Marc Pingres and Roger Yap combined for 85 points that made a mockery to the Tropang Texters’ defense.

Coach Ryan Gregorio’s deadly combination will be tested against Arwind Santos, Dorian Pena, Dondon Hontiveros, Lordy Tugade, Dennis Miranda and Mick Pennissi, who led the Beermen to an 88-69 triumph over Sta. Lucia Realty last Saturday in Victorias City, Negros Occidental.
