ALA boy AJ Banal is set to join his stable mate Donnie Nietes in the undercard of Nietes’s title defense against Manuel Vargas on July 18.
Banal was supposed to fight on the same day in the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Marquez bout but it was canceled after Mayweather got injured.

“We are just waiting for confirmation. He might fight in the undercard of Donnie’s fight,” ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview.
Aldeguer said Banal will probably be fighting in a six-rounder just to keep him busy in preparation for his targeted US fight on Sept. 19, the new schedule of the Mayweather and Marquez battle.
Banal is currently training at the Wild Card Gym along with his friend and fellow ALA fighter, Nietes, under Freddie Roach.
Nietes will be putting his World Boxing Organization mini-flyweight crown on the line against Vargas, the interim champion.
“Donnie always wanted to fight in Mexico. He wants the challenge,” said Aldeguer.
