Car trader expands to Ozamis

THE growing interest of consumers to buy surplus cars because of its affordability has prompted a Cebuana entrepreneur to expand her car business to Ozamis City this year.
“The market is encouraging. People need their own vehicles,” said Car Mall operator Aida Patana in a recent interview.

Patana currently operates three outlets in Ibabao, Mandaue, Banilad and Pardo.
She said the expansion of her business to Mindanao was spurred by the growing demand
for surplus cars despite common issues on quality, reliability and safety.
“People opt to buy surplus and second-hand cars because these are affordable. Cars now are already considered a necessity,” Patana said.
Patana reported increasing car sales in her three outlets. She said each outlet sells an average of 10 to 20 units of surplus and second-hand cars a month.
“If you’re on a tight budget then buying a surplus or a second-hand car gets you the vehicle for the least amount of money,” Patana said.
Aside from the affordable rates, Patana said one factor that also attracts buyers to buy second-hand or surplus cars is the easy payment scheme.
She said that for as low as P50,000 one can already own a branded surplus unit and pay for the balance on installment. Requirements are also less stringent compared with buying new cars.
Patana started her car business in 2010. Most of her buyers are foreigners and overseas Filipino workers.
“I entered into this business because I see this as a thriving venture,” she said.
Patana also maintains another business as a distributor of personalized wines.
Patana sources her surplus cars from Japan and Korea. The company also offers warranty plans to car owners.
