THE Cebu Educational Development Foundation of Information Technology (Cedf-it) is optimistic the IT-BPO industry would surpass its growth this year after industry leaders described 2011 as a “banner year.”
Top officials of Cedf-it pledged to further strengthen the academe and industry linkage and come up with various activities that would help sustain the growth momentum of these two sunshine industries.
“We are not too far away,” said Cedf-it chairman Francis Monera referring to the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP) projection of $25 billion in revenues by 2016 during Cedf-it’s general membership meeting last week.
The country’s BPO industry recorded $11 billion in revenues last year.
Monera described Cebu’s IT-BPO landscape as constantly growing. In 2011, the industry grew by 20 percent, employing some 60,000 direct workers mostly located at the Cebu IT Park.
Monera is optimistic the industry would record another banner year given the industry’s compound annual growth rate of 20 percent, acceleration of office developments at IT Park and the rapid expansion of BPO players in Cebu.
Cedf-it executive director Jun Sa-a, meanwhile, presented the organization’s planned activities that include skills trainings in partnership with Microsoft Philippines. A Microsoft Training Caravan will be held in Iloilo and Davao City this month; and Cebu in June.
According to Saa, the program is done in partnership with the National ICT Council of the Philippines to bring Cedf-it training model experience to other ICT councils.
Aside from this, Cedf-it will also aggressively promote the Philippine IT General Certification Exam (Phil IT GCE). Cedf-it targets 300 schools in Cebu to participate in the IT online exam this September.
Sa-a also announced Cedf-it’s involvement in this year’s Cebu Business Month as it will host the ICT-BPO conference on June 26-27.
Sa-a, the chair of this year’s ICT-BPO conference said, the two day meeting will focus on discussions on local issues and key challenges in the industry. It will also feature KPO companies.
Cedf-it will also launch the e-Gov awards and the Asean ICT awards, the highlights of the conference.
