AS PART of its 30th anniversary celebration, Sun.Star Cebu with the Department of Manpower Development and Placement and the Department of Labor and Employment will hold a job fair on Tuesday.
Dubbed the “Kalayaan Job Fair” to also commemorate Independence Day, organizers are expecting over 1,000 jobseekers to find positions from 52 participating employers. The jobs fair will be held at the covered court of the Cebu City Sports Complex from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Girlie Veloso, who is head coordinator of the job fair, said Sun.Star Cebu, which leads local dailies in the classified ads market, hoped to help their advertisers by holding the job fair.
The classified ads section of the newspaper is one of the most popular sections of the paper, which led the company to put up its own website dedicated to jobseekers, she said. The site, jobs.sunstar.com.ph, was set up last year. Veloso said over 6,000 resumés have been uploaded.
Veloso said only Sun.Star advertisers are allowed access to the resumés.
While applicants wait for their turn to be interviewed, Veloso said they can upload their resumés to the Sun.Star jobs website using 40 computers that will be made available at the venue.
Applicants need only to bring copies of their school records. Veloso said there are also positions available for those who have not graduated from college.
She said that all applicants had to do was fill-up forms and wait for their turn to be screened and interviewed.
All the positions available will be for local positions. Employers include Convergys, Aegis People Support, TeleTech, Salon de Rose, Qualfon, Media Mind, Opinionology, Sykes, Wipro, Live2Sell, Xlibris, Accenture, Kudo Support, Stream Global Services, Asiapro, Vector, Support Save, Julie’s Bakeshop, JP Morgan Chase and Co., Parex Davco, Breeders Agrivet Supply, Cebu Mitsumi, Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co.
