AFTER becoming an anchor tenant of AppleOne Tower, naming rights were granted to the Equicom Group of Companies, both companies announced Friday.

With Equicom occupying the entire ground and seventh floor of the building, owners decided to rename the building AppleOne-Equicom Tower, although ownership and development of the building remains with AppleOne Properties Inc.

AppleOne executive vice president Yvet Andalis explained that naming rights are a popular marketing tool that building owners extend to a preferred tenant for added mileage.

They expressed confidence in Equicom, which will be leasing the space for 15 years.

The 16-storey tower located at the Cebu Business Park is the flagship project of AppleOne Properties. Company officials said all residential units have been sold while the office space is 92 percent occupied. It is accredited by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza). It is scheduled for completion in December this year.

The tower has 47 office units, four levels of parking space and 18 penthouse suites at the top two floors.

“We are pleased to have Equicom as one of our major tenants with a respectable reputation in its varied businesses. It is a great honor to be connected to the respectable Equicom Group. This will add more formidability and strength to what we have built and developed,” Andalis said.

Aside from the tower, AppleOne is expected to announce another project by December.

Though they declined to fully disclose the details of their next project, Andalis hinted that it is a mid-rise, mid-market residential building within Cebu City.

The Equicom Group is a conglomerate with subsidiaries and affiliates in healthcare, banking and finance and information technology and computer services.

Included in the conglomerate are Maxicare Healthcare Corp., Equicom Savings Bank, Algo Leasing and Finance Inc., My Health Clinic and Metro Dental Clinic, among others.

The company said it aims to maximize the country’s expertise in health care, using IT and automation for efficient delivery of services at lower cost for clients.
