6M passengers went through MCIA in 2012

OVER six million passengers went through the Mactan-Cebu International Airport in 2012, 1.5 million of which were to and from international destinations, growing three percent from the previous year.
Figures posted on their website show there were 752,793 incoming international passengers throughout the year and 757,798 outgoing international passengers.
The most number of international passengers was during the month of January. The MCIA reported 163,643 passengers that month.
The airport posted 5.25 million domestic passengers, up 11 percent from 2011. Incoming domestic passengers reached 2.628 million while outgoing domestic passengers reached 2.629 million. Unlike the international passengers, most of the domestic passengers passed through during summer months of April and May.
Total passengers who passed through the MCIA were at 6.771 million, up nine percent from 2011.
A total of 58,888 flights passed through the MCIA, most of which were during the month of January and the last three months of the year. This was a nine percent rise from the previous year.
International flights reached 9,646, majority of which were in January with 1,056 flights. This grew one percent from 2011. December was the second in terms of most number of international flights with 957.
The MCIA posted 49,242 domestic flights last year, rising nine percent.
The second and last quarter of the year showed over 4,000 flights domestically, while over 3,000 flights were for the first quarter and through July to September.
The MCIA also recorded the kilos of cargo and baggage they transported.
Domestic baggage reached 32.4 million while international baggage was at 18.9 million, for a total of 53.2 million.
Domestically, most of the baggage transported was during the summer months while internationally, most was transported in January.
Some 56.9 million pieces of cargo were transported through the MCIA last year, 13.5 million of which were transported internationally. Most of the domestic cargo was sent in September while international cargo had similar figures for each month.
