AFTER serving as a committee chairman of two big events, Felix Tiukinhoy Jr. was named the overall chairman of next year’s Cebu Business Month.

Tiukinhoy accepted the chairmanship Friday during the thanksgiving celebration for the success of both Cebu Business Month last June and the Confederation of Asia Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) Conference held last March. Tiukinhoy served as chairman of the ways and means committee of both events, organized by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

CBM 2013 chairperson Melanie Ng said Tiukinhoy is “the perfect candidate” to lead the organizing team, citing his commitment during the CACCI and CBM events.

Despite her busy schedule, Melanie said it was a “wonderful experience” to act as chairperson and considers the work memorable. She thanked those who have helped her organize the activities, including retailers who played their theme song repeatedly, aiding them in branding the CBM.

Tiukinhoy, a trustee of the CCCI, is president and chief executive officer of Virginia Foods Inc. He assured members that he will do his best to do his tasks with the same vigor and passion that Ng has made during the last CBM.

Both the CBM and CACCI events were considered the highlight of Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s activities for 2013, as they celebrate their centennial anniversary.

CACCI chairman Jose Ng said they broke the attendance record, getting 507 participants to attend the conference. The previous record was 400, achieved at the conference in Istanbul, Turkey.

Jose credited the success of the event to the hard work of committee chairpersons and the support of CCCI and other business organizations in the country. The 27th CACCI conference was the first time it was held in Cebu and the second time in the Philippines. He added that they have proven that the CCCI team can make things possible.

CCCI president Lito Maderazo believes whatever they accomplished with the CACCI will have lasting effects for CCCI, as they have proven then handle big events and have forged partnerships with other local and foreign business chambers.

He added that this year’s CBM had the most number of activities, holding 16 events, and was just as successful.
