REAL estate developer Megaworld has allocated P1.5 billion this year to start building the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in the 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park.
It told the Philippine Stock Exchange yesterday that the 15-storey hotel will mark the entry of an international hotel brand in Western Visayas and will offer “first-class accommodations” to business and leisure travelers in the region.
“This is another milestone for the Iloilo Business Park. Our development in Iloilo is a showcase of our company’s commitment to uplifting the Ilonggo lifestyle to a whole new level,” said Jericho Go, Megaworld’s first vice president. “The quality of service of Courtyard by Marriott is legendary and will help to lift the level of accommodations and leisure in Iloilo City.”
Peter Gassner, Marriott’s director for hotel development in the Asia-Pacific, said this venture will be the first Courtyard by Marriott in the Philippines. The brand focuses, he said, on providing guests with “an environment that offers smart, energizing choices so that they can make the most of their time on the road.”
The hotel will have 314 rooms and suites, Megaworld said in its disclosure. “All rooms will have a curtain wall system that provides an amazing view of the urban landscape of Iloilo Business Park.”
The business park is being developed to host luxury residential condominiums, business process outsourcing office towers, a mall, a 1.1-kilometer Festive Walk commercial strip, parks, a transport hub and the Iloilo Convention Center.
Megaworld said the business park is “modelled after the company’s live-work-play-learn lifestyle township formula.” Its other townships include Eastwood City, McKinley Hill in Taguig and Newport City, which includes Resorts World Manila.
