Why we’re joining Geeks On A Beach-A A +A
Thursday, August 22, 2013
GEEKS On A Beach (GOAB), an international conference on technology, startups and design, is attracting a diverse group of people. The inaugural event will happen on Sept. 26 to 27 in Boracay Island.
The event will gather industry leaders, geeks, business people, startup founders, students and others.
Among those attending is our group from Tagbilaran City –a businesswoman, a tech entrepreneur, trainee programmers and a professor. We are members of TechTalks.ph, a non-profit community of people who are interested in technology, business and startup opportunities.
Dal, a 22-year-old businesswoman and entrepreneur, says that it will be a learning and networking opportunity. Experts will share their invaluable insights.
‘Startup Best Practices and Philippine Startup Success Stories’ will be a panel discussion with successful investors and IT business leaders.
Ben, a 39-year-old project manager, hopes to gain information to help his business. He is eager to hear “Keynote Address World Startup Report: Opportunities and Threats” from Bowei Gai, a global authority on startups.
Japhet and Grace, in their early 20s, are trainee programmers: Success stories from the industry gurus will inspire them to advance their careers. Young professionals need this encouragement to counterbalance naysayers. With this in mind, some companies are sending their IT staff to the event, all expenses paid, as they view it as an investment to retain employees.
Jay Paul, a 21-year-old IT college teacher, says he wants to hear what companies like Smart are looking for in new graduates. Jay said he will be better informed about current job opportunities and help update the curriculum and provide career guidance to students.
