THE number of Filipinos consuming data on their mobile devices has increased dramatically in recent years with the proliferation of affordable mobile devices and data plans.
With the continued surge in mobile web usage, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) launched new mobile messaging packages.
“Through the years, mobile connectivity has gone beyond just being able to call and text,” said Charles Lim, EVP and head of wireless consumer business for Smart and Sun. “Now we are seeing the growth in popularity and usage of over-the-top (OTT) messaging services or more commonly known as mobile chat applications.”
In recent years, these mobile chat apps gained a foothold among technology-savvy users because they offer a variety of feature-driven ways for users to communicate. Users can send and receive not only traditional text messages but also rich media messages, which include stickers, smileys and emoticons. Users can also enjoy one-on-one chat or simultaneous chat with multiple users.
Smart’s newest suite of mobile messaging data plans, includes an all-day chat offer for P10 a day on WeChat and Line. With the promo, all Smart and Talk N’ Text subscribers can chat with relatives and friends all over the world (who are also users of the same app) even without connecting to a Wi-Fi hotspot and incurring additional data charges. To register, prepaid users can just text WECHAT10 or LINE10 to 2200.
“With this promo, Smart is proud to be the first telco to offer the most affordable all-day messaging service in the country,” said Dexter Chan, manager for Smart Internet Marketing. “At only P10 a day, our subscribers can enjoy unli rich media messaging like never before.” (PR)
