Postpaid drives growth in Globe

GLOBE Telecom’s postpaid business remains one of its strongest growth drivers, consistently posting double-digit growth in revenues and subscriber base as of third quarter this year on the back of innovative postpaid offers and deals, the company said in a press statement.

The company’s postpaid segment continued to provide solid contribution to the company’s overall mobile business with revenues amounting to P20 billion, a 20 percent increase from previous year’s P16.7 billion.

Postpaid revenues contributed 37 percent of total mobile revenues, up from 33 percent last year.

Growth

Postpaid customer base has grown to 1.98 million subscribers ending the first nine months of the year, a 19 percent increase from previous year’s 1.66 million and a four percent growth from previous quarter, attributed to strong acquisition programs led by the fully-customizable mySUPERPLAN, which allows customers to create the perfect plan that best fits their budget and lifestyle.

With mySUPERPLAN, subscribers get a postpaid plan that has double the value of prepaid load, a wide range of combos and boosters, up-to-date device offerings, and flexible contract periods ranging from 6 to 24 months. This year, mySUPERPLAN gained traction among new customers for Plans 499, 999, and 1799.

Amid the competition’s intense switching drive and aggressive pricing, the company said its strategy to grow its postpaid base remains sound, as the absolute growth in postpaid revenues alone for the first nine months of the year was almost double the increase in absolute investments in subsidies and re-contracting costs for new and existing subscribers during the same period.

Subscriber base

Overall mobile subscriber gross and net additions reached 22.1 million and 3.4 million, 23 percent and 69 percent higher year-on-year, respectively, bringing total mobile subscriber base to 36.5 million as of end-September, up 14 percent versus the same period in 2012.

“Globe remains to be the strongest competitor when it comes to postpaid as evidenced in our consistent double-digit growth performance over the last few quarters.

Our third quarter results show that subscribers still know the brand of service that we offer when it comes to our postpaid business, from our fully-customizable and best-in-class postpaid plans, exclusive device offers, innovative deals, and expanded sales channels reaching out to more subscribers,” said Raul Macatangay, head of Globe Postpaid Business and Devices.

Looking at ending the year on a high note, the telco’s postpaid segment recently unveiled the iPhone Forever, an upgrade program that allows new and existing subscribers to get the latest iPhone every year for P1,599 per month. (PR)
