OUT-PATIENT drugstore MedExpress opened its first branch in Cebu at the Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital (CDUH) last Wednesday, offering delivery service and price match guarantee programs.
CDUH president and medical director Dr. Potenciano Larrazabal Jr. said in the press conference that the new venture will bring in more competitively priced medicines, medical supplies and value-added services for both its clients and doctors.
Through the price guarantee program of MedExpress, Larrazabal said patients are assured of affordable prices, which are matched with the prices of competitor drugstores.
“Our partnership with MedExpress addresses the cost and compliance factors that are critical to patients. First, we guarantee competitive prices and second, through MedExpress expertise and value-added services, we guarantee patients are properly monitored with their medications,” said Larrazabal.
CDUH is the ninth partner hospital of MedExpress.
“What sets us apart from the other players in the market is that we are giving professional pharmacy service that is hardly available in the industry,” said Robert Lim, president of MedExpress Drugstore.
Lim said they are not the typical drugstore that merely sells medicine but they also offer value-added services such as medication counseling, informing patients or customers “what the medicine is, what it is for, what to expect from it and what to avoid,” patient medication history, drug interaction monitoring and patient medication compliance monitoring and intervention.
“We go the extra mile because we want to help medical professionals manage their patients better and provide patients with lower prices of medicines to improve their compliance,” he said.
MedExpress also offers delivery service for patients, especially those who have maintenance medicine. Delivery charge is free for a minimum of P750 worth of medicines, while a P50 delivery fee is charged for purchases that do not meet the minimum. The delivery service will be offered next month.
Lim said they also keep records of contact of information and medication details of the patient and monitor them, through call and text, when their prescriptions near their end. He assured, though, that these medical records are confidential.
The drugstore is also backed with a 50-seater call center to offer patient access to inquiry and placement of orders.
MedExpress Drugstore is located at the ground floor of CDUH, Osmeña Blvd. and in the Medical Arts Building 2 on Gov. Roa St.
Lim said their service will help boost Cebu’s positioning in the medical and wellness tourism sector because it will provide convenience to local and foreign retirees.
“Providing professional pharmacy services like ours supports the country’s direction in medical tourism in terms of price and quality of service that any tourist would demand,” he said.
Lim said that after CDUH, they are considering expansion in other hospitals affiliated with the CDUH in the north and south of Cebu.
