Toral: Pursue your passion

-A A +A

LAST Dec. 7, I gave a talk about the “Selfie Journey” and the seven steps to connect or engage online. Whether you are doing this for a product or for your company or for yourself, I hope the following tips can help.

It all starts by expressing your passion. This reflects who you are and the topics close to your heart. You can use blogs and social media as a medium to express it.

However, this is not a one-time thing or something you do for just a short while. It has to be done continuously to assert commitment. Being consistent can help in establishing trust as well.

Stand out. Know what makes you distinct or different. Makes sure this gets communicated or known until it becomes only identifiable with you.

Attract the crowd you like. I remember being told that what you project or assert is what you will attract. If you are attracting negativity in your life, then review the attitude that you are showing to your inner circle or online. This can have a big effect on the kind of people that come into your life.

Own a category. You can be in a competitive field like real estate. But you also have unique strengths or skills that you can capitalize on to create your unique value. Put in new services or ways to deliver things that allow you to define your own category.

Use the “rebel” in you. There is always something unfair happening out there in your field that frustrates you. It is something that you want to change. Use that as your battle cry and create offerings or services that are meant to challenge that. Those who agree with you will naturally get attracted to you in the process if done right.

Define a framework to sustain. Doing something consistently can be tough especially if you have to balance it with the need to have an income.

Review your business model and see what you can do that will allow you to have a steady stream of activities and income sources coming from multiple resources and in various forms. If you are able to do this, then there is a possibility that you can reasonably earn while doing the things you are passionate about.

There are many ways a person can connect to and engage with the people they meet online and offline. More than just sharing what you know and what you have, I believe it is also about empowering others and creating shared memorable experiences.

These experiences can take place in different levels - some one-time while others on a sustained basis. Whatever that may be, it has to be sincere and not self-serving. It brings out the best in others directly or inspire or empower them to do so.

I recall reading somewhere that a rich person is not the one who has the most but the one who needs the least. Pursue your passion and find your contentment.
