Lenovo opens concept store in Cebu

HOPING to get a share of Cebu’s smartphone market, Lenovo opened its sixth concept store yesterday and showcased their premium product, the Vibe X.

The store is located in Ayala Center Cebu.

Lenovo Philippines marketing communications manager Anna Abola said they hope to build on their presence in the Visayas and Mindanao with their second shop outside Metro Manila.

Open Communications Corp. business unit head Juan Armando Rojo, Lenovo’s local partner, said 2013 was a good year for the brand and that they hope to sustain its performance this year. A well-known PC brand, Lenovo hopes to extend their success with their mobile phones, banking on their strong PC reputation.

Though they are yet to get official figures on Lenovo’s performance in the market, Rojo said feedback from their partner stores are good, with Lenovo phones ranking second or third among global brands.

With the Vibe X, Rojo feels the Lenovo brand has a significant offering for the middle to high-end market.

In a statement, Lenovo Philippines general manager Michael Ngan, said they are embracing the shift of the marketplace to mobile.

“We intend to build on our PC+ strategy and to sustain our growth momentum in the smart connected devices segment by strengthening our retail presence for mobile with the opening of more Lenovo Exclusive mobile stores across the archipelago,” he said.

To celebrate the opening of the Cebu store, they are offering discounts and free items for purchases of Lenovo smartphones from Jan. 15 to Feb. 14.

Previously seen as entry-level smartphones, Lenovo hopes to make a change with the high-end market with the the Vibe X, their sleek and lightweight smartphone offered at a suggested retail price of P19,999.

At 6.9 mm, the phone is as thin as a pencil and weighs 121 grams. It comes in a polycarbonate body that is laser-etched to keep from slipping and avoid fingerprint marks while the five-inch display boasts of full high definition resolution and sits under a Corning Gorilla glass screen.

At a demonstration yesterday, they showed that the phone’s camera offers a high resolution capacity of five megapixels for the front camera, which they feel will attract those who enjoy taking selfies. It also comes with special effects like the
beauty effect, which removes blemishes.

Other features include quicker file transfers, anti-virus, privacy settings, anti-spam and anti-theft applications.

Rojo said Lenovo as a PC brand can be translated towards the smartphone market and that its affordable price points make it attractive for Cebuanos.

They also hope to attract the millenials into trying out the Vibe X, saying those who want to constantly stay connected, are influential and trend-setters and do anything online will enjoy this phone.
