OVER 6,000 urgent job vacancies here and abroad will be offered to job seekers this May 31.
The job fair hosted by Mynimo.com in partnership with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is the first official event to mark the opening of the Cebu Business Month (CBM) 2014.
Wesley Chiongbian, founder and president of Cebu-based job online portal Mynimo.com, in a press conference yesterday said that the career event dubbed Happy Jobs Fair, has already recorded 6,326 urgent job vacancies as of Wednesday from 54 confirmed local and overseas employers with vacancies catering to all job levels and various professions.
Onn the other hand, registered applicants stood at 4,000 as of Monday. Most of the jobseekers’ specialization are in the field of information and computers and administration or office.
Chiongbian said they expect the figures to increase as the job event draws near.
The career event will be held at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The bulk of the job vacancies are from the business process outsourcing companies comprising 3,034, while 1,915 job vacancies are for skilled and technical workers needed abroad.
Forty-three percent of the employers are located in Cebu City.
Most or 57 percent of the job vacancies require one to four years experience. Twenty-five percent are for the entry level or fresh graduates.
Unlike other job fairs, Chiongbian said the Happy Jobs Fair is unique, as it will apply Mynimo.com’s website functionality in a physical setting. He said job seekers can expect an easier time in finding the right jobs with its categorized job board. Employers will also benefit, as they can screen applicants faster with Mynimo.com’s color-coding scheme.
“We are always looking for ways to innovate in everything we do. To our knowledge, these approaches have never been implemented at job fairs before so we’re very excited to see how it turns out,” he said.
“Job fairs can be stressful for both job seekers and employers, so we came up with these methods to make it a more pleasant and happy experience,” He added.
Chiongbian noted that job vacancies in Cebu have increased since the past years, proof that Cebu’s economy is indeed growing.
“There was an increase of 25 percent in the number of job vacancies across all services in the first five months this year over the same period in 2013. Mynimo.com recorded an increase of job posting by 60 percent over the last year. A lot of companies are really hiring locally, overseas job vacancies, on the other hand, are also picking up,” he said.
The online job portal posts an average of 2,000 job vacancies every month.
Asked about the firm’s readiness for the Asean 2015 integration, Chiongbian said a lot of overseas companies are making Cebu their back office. He noted that a number of Singaporean companies are hiring Cebu workers due to cheaper overhead. The online job portal has been getting applicants from all over the world, Chiongbian said.
“The Asean integration opens opportunities for everyone,” he said.
Chito Recamadas, Jobs Fair chair of CBM 2014, said the Filipino workforce has an advantage because “we are resilient and we are the only English-speaking country among the Asean-member countries.”
“We don’t have to worry with the free flow of workforce when the full integration happens, because we are the most prepared,” said Recamadas, who also holds a key position in the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP).
On top of asking about salary and benefits, CBM 2014 chair Felix Tiukinhoy Jr., advised applicants to also research about the company and its culture.
“More than the figures, it is important also to know about the company’s people and environment,” he said.
