UC Banilad to host Startup Weekend-A A +A
Friday, May 30, 2014
THE University of Cebu’s (UC) Banilad Campus will play host to the fourth leg of Startup Weekend Cebu (SWC) on June 6, 7 and 8, 2014.
Everyone who is willing to build businesses—whether with technical or non-technical backgrounds—is encouraged to be part of the community of startup enthusiasts, who gather to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch start-ups.
The event takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on those dates.
The 54-hour event starts with an “open mic” pitching of business ideas on Friday night, where attendees are urged to bring out their ideas and inspire others to join or make their team. Each team should focus on customer development, validating their ideas, practicing LEAN startup methodologies and building a minimal viable product over Saturday and Sunday.
On Sunday evening, teams turn their ideas into prototypes, and demonstrate these in presentations to receive feedback from a panel of experts.
The event is open to students, professionals and retired persons who have a passion to build a business or desire to learn how, or even established business persons looking for technology partners.
Last year’s SWC3 winners were Edroll, BloodMatch and At Your Service Bai.
Organizers of SWC anticipate a more productive and exciting field for the participants joining the three-day event. It is organized by high-profile volunteers from TechTalks.ph, a SEC-registered non-profit, which provides opportunities to help the Philippine grassroots community become more globally competitive.
“Technology fires up businesses. Technology makes businesses grow faster globally.
This strengthens our position as we approach Asean integration. We are excited by our partnership with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) for Cebu Business Month,” said TechTalks.ph founder Tina Amper.
She is also the global organizer of World Startup Report, a social project to connect and document startup communities worldwide. Rica Ruth Serenio is this year’s SWC lead organizer; she is the co-founder of Offshore Consultancy and Business Services, a senior member of Techtalks.ph, and a winner of Startup Weekend Cebu 3.
This year’s SWC will not only help the participants in promoting tech entrepreneurship but also will teach them to be successful entrepreneurs.
To join SWC, register online at www.cebu.startweekend.com. Registration includes seven free meals; coaching by more than seven mentors who are leaders and tech innovators; and $100 AWS credit to allow members to start hosting their websites on the Amazon Web Services Cloud.
