THE Department of Trade and Industry-Cebu Provincial Office (DTI-CPO) has set up Business Assistance Centers (BACs) in Bogo City and Daanbantayan to step-up the rehabilitation and recovery efforts in the industry, trade and services (ITS) sector in typhoon Yolanda-affected areas in northern Cebu.
The BAC will function as a “little DTI” operating within the locality and will implement DTI’s flagship projects and basic functions within its geographical scope, the agency said in a press statement.
“The BACs will primarily function as DTI-Cebu’s contact point or administrative extension in the affected local government units (LGUs). It will help in delivering and facilitating the necessary and immediate support services related to rehabilitation and recovery efforts for the ITS,” the DT-CPO said.
The BACs will also help in building and enhancing linkages with the LGUs and conducting consultancies to address the needs of the business community in northern Cebu.
The BAC personnel assigned in Bogo City will cover the areas of Bogo, Medellin and San Remigio. The one assigned in Daanbantayan will also cover Malapascua Island.
Programs and services that will be coordinated by the BAC are Bottom-Up Budgeting, Shared Services Facilities, Streamlining of Business Permits and Licensing System, Industry Clustering/Value Chain mapping, Green Growth and Disaster Resilience, Building Local Competitiveness and Investment Promotions.
The DTI-CPO said the LGU officials in Bogo and Daanbantayan welcomed the establishment of the BACs, which would make opening of businesses easier and less costly as investors need not travel to Cebu City to obtain permits and other documents.
The agency will also set up BACs in the northern Cebu towns of Sogod and Sta. Fe in Camotes Island.
