TWO weeks ago, I was informed that that Air 21 (http://www.onlinebooking.air21.com.ph/) launched its online booking service. It allows entrepreneurs to register, book their shipping requirements and have items picked up and delivered to recipients.
This is a welcome addition to couriers like Xend (http://www.xend.com.ph) which exposed me to such a service back in 2008.
It is great to see that more and more entrepreneurs will be able to avail themselves of pick-up services for packages, a service that is often limited to companies that ship in bulk.
Couriers play an important role in making e-commerce entrepreneur-friendly in the country.
As sales volume of online entrepreneurs is limited, getting a product shipped can be an expensive task, especially if you have to go out of your way to get a package delivered. It is an add-on cost passed on to customers.
However, with courier pick-up from your home or office, transportation cost can be saved. This gives merchants the option of reducing or waving courier fees as the cost of having it shipped is reduced.
Other opportunities couriers can explore in this space is customized packaging or branding for the sellers to further customize the product delivery and acceptance experience.
Payment collection is also another option. This is where couriers delivers the product and collects the payment from customers. Collections can be deposited to the merchant accounts.
I hope more couriers will be merchant-friendly and become an enabler in promoting e-commerce growth in the country.
