THE Network of Independent Travel Agents (Nitas-Cebu) is calling on small tourism players to join their group.
“We are currently in the process of inviting tourism stakeholders in the countryside to join us. Our objective here is to widen the scope of the organization so we will be able to reach out to more small tourism players especially those in the north and south of Cebu,” said Nitas-Cebu president Ricky Tio.
Tio said the organization will no longer be limited to travel agencies because they will also accept members from hotels, restaurants, resort or other businesses related to tourism.
“We intend to promote countryside tourism as well as open opportunities for small players to network or do business with other tourism counterparts across the country,” he said, adding that the organization will also recruit members in other key cities in Baguio, Ilocos and Davao.
Tio said the move to welcome countryside tourism players in their organization will complement the measures currently being undertaken by the Province of Cebu in boosting countryside tourism. This will also open business opportunities for small tourism players.
Tio is an awardee of SKAL International Makati as Tour and Travel of the year. He owns the 20-year old Cebu Holiday Tours and Travel Inc.
Aside from the basic countryside tour and island hopping, Tio reported that Cebu is gaining popularity as a diving site especially among the Chinese market due to its reasonably priced diving rate and attractive locations.
“The Chinese are the new emerging market for fun diving,” he said. Tio was recently in Shanghai, China to sell the Philippines, particularly Cebu as diving destination.
Among the popular diving sites in Cebu are Moalboal, Mactan and Malapascua Islands.
“If we can tap even just one percent of the Chinese market, its already good enough for our tourism,” said Tio. His travel agency logs an average diving booking of 50-100 per month and 300 bookings per month during peak season.
