MSMEs urged to build digital presence

Thursday, January 12, 2017

MICRO, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) need to secure a digital presence to expand their market base, an online marketer said.

For Janette Toral, MSMEs are already recognizing the value of web-based systems and social media to advance their respective enterprises.

“Most MSMEs are already recognizing that they need to do e-commerce because there’s a very competitive market out there,” Toral told reporters.

“And there are also MSMEs who know they need it, but they’re not so sure how to do it,” she added.

In 2016, there were 44 million internet users. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cebu, the first to formally organize an e-commerce mentorship program, recognized the economic opportunities on the Internet, said Toral.

The DTI e-commerce program is a five-week mentorship program where 16 MSMEs learned how to set up their own websites, accept online payments and create their own customer relationship management systems.
