ASIDE from looking out for big-ticket investments in the province, the Cebu Investment and Promotions Office (CIPO) intends to reach out to the micro and small enterprises to adopt digital platforms in the marketing of their respective businesses.
In an interview yesterday, Investment Promotions Officer Roy Soledad said CIPO started the first rollout of a digital marketing training program in October in Bogo City.
Under a five-day training in partnership with the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), 20 entrepreneurs learned digital marketing, including social media management and website development.
However, to sustain it, his office sees the need to partner with both public and private organizations. A five-day training with 20 participants would cost P120,000, inclusive of trainors, venue and food, Soledad said.
Telcos, he added, may want to sponsor the digital marketing trainings for MSMEs. Local government units are also invited to collaborate with them and sponsor the trainings so they could reach more micro and small entrepreneurs in 2018.
“Even if we want big companies here in Cebu, we also want more MSMEs to grow because they comprise 90 plus percent of the total number of businesses,” he said.
By next year, CIPO plans to prioritize the trainings in first class municipalities where there are vibrant retail and commercial activities.
A similar program was first rolled out by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through its ongoing e-commerce mentorship program.
From January to September 2017, Cebu welcomed P22.3 billion investment pleges registered with the Board of Investments (BOI), according to Soledad. (JOG)
