Car enthusiasts in Cebu to promote better driving

CEBUANO car clubs want to promote better driving and organize a movement on road safety, with car accidents increasing in the past months.

According to Ron Duterte, vice president of the Federation of Auto Clubs Cebu (FACC), they have already gotten the support of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and they will be tying up with different government agencies to push the advocacy this year.

FACC is a non-profit organization comprising 21 car clubs in Cebu Province. It has a combined membership of almost 1,000 car enthusiasts and is considered the single largest organization of car clubs in the Philippines.

The organization has a lot of civic activities, including an annual feeding and tree planting programs.

“We have tied up with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and Motolite for the Balik-Batterya program in which they will provide 40,000 worth of learning materials to various schools,” said Duterte.

He said proceeds from this year’s Cebu Inter Auto Club Meet will be given to the community through their different programs.

The 2010 One Cebu Inter Auto Club Meet will showcase more than 100 cars from member clubs and from 14 of Cebu’s local car dealerships. Three racing teams and one mobile audio group will also be participating.

The car dealerships participating in the event are Cherry, Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Kia, Lifan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota.

The three-day event from Aug. 13 to 15 at the Cebu International Convention Center is part of the One Cebu Expo.
