Cebu Fest offers 10 events

TEN sports events are lined up to make the First Cebu Fest an unforgettable affair from May 2 to May 8 at the South Road Properties (SRP).

The events--motorcross, karting, drag racing, flag football, softball, baseball, football, boxing, mixed-martial arts and a sundown marathon—are expected to draw large crowds for the week-long affair.

Six teams will be competing for softball on May 2 at the SRP Sugbu Area. Jesse Bernad, who is in -charge for the softball and baseball games, said a slow pitch game is also set on May 8, while a kids’ tournament will be held on May 7.

On the other hand, 56 teams will join football, which will have the men’s open, ladies open, 36-above, Boys 17, 14 and 12 and Girls 17 divisions on May 8.

The SRP Sundown Run 2010, a running event to launch South Road Properties (SRP), will be on May 8 at the Sugbo Plaza and hopes to attract 1,500 participants. It will have the 3K, 5K and 10K runs and will start at 5 p.m.

The registration fee is P250, and those who sign up early will only pay P200.

Boxing will be on May 8 from 6 to 9 p.m., while drag racing will be on May 1 and 8. Flag football, a toned-down version of American football, will be on May 7 and 8.

The Cebu Fest is envisioned to be an annual event and will also have nightly variety shows and concerts, night bazaars, food bazaars, an auto show, a carnival and

The idea of holding the Cebu Fest, which aims to promote Cebu, was first hatched by Pyroworks head Brian Lim.

Lim will also head the highlight of the event as his company tries to set the Guinness World Record for most rockets launched in 30 seconds with 120,000 rockets. (Apple C. Lavado, UP Intern)
