CEBUANO weightlifters stamped their marks in the Philippine Weightlifting Association’s National 5-in-1 lift fest last Saturday in Bohol after posting national records in their respective weight divisions.
Sportwriters’ Association of Cebu awardee Kelly Kay Rojas and Angelica Lado each won two gold medals in the snatch and clean and jerk events of their respective weight classes and all in record-breaking fashion, as well as Joselito Padilla and Martin Pateño in the men’s division.

Rojas, suiting up for University of San Jose- Recoletos and team Aliño Integrated Services, set new marks in the 48-kilogram class of the junior division, eclipsing the records she set last year.
Improvement
Rojas, a national team mainstay, improved the snatch record from 60kg to 63kg. In the clean and jerk, she erased the old record of 75kg after clearing 80 kilos last Saturday.
Lado, on the other hand, who is also from USJ-R reset the records made by Evan Gicain in the collegiate, junior and national standard of the 75kg category.
She wiped out the old 75kg snatch record and improved it by five kilos. She did the same in the clean and jerk posting a new record of 100kg from the 95kg old record.
Men’s division
Meanwhile, in the men’s side, Baseline team’s Martin Pateño broke the record set by Edrew Cardano if the University of the East, improving the old record by two kilos
after lifting 102 kgs. in the snatch event of his weight class.
In the clean and jerk, Pateño also posted a new lift mark of 125 kgs.
University of Cebu’s Joselito Padilla broke the marks of Jefferson Querubin of USJ-R in the collegiate division. He made a smashing performance in the snatch event, as
he improved the record by seven kilos lifting 140kg and improved the clean and jerk record by 14 kilos with his best lift of 167kg.
