CIT-U tops DBTC

HE Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats held their ground down the stretch to frustrate the Don Bosco Technological College (DBTC) Greywolves, 91-82, in the 2010 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) collegiate division at the Cebu Coliseum last Tuesday.

The victory improved CIT-U’s record to 3-2, while DBTC sank to 1-3.

DBTC looked ready to give the Wildcats a good fight when they took an early lead, 17-15, at the end of the first quarter.

However, things began to go sour for the Greywolves when Floyd Taboada heated up.

Taboada led a 30-15 blitz by the Wildcats for a 45-32 lead at the half. Taboada had 11 of his game-high 23 points in that rally.

The Greywolves executed a better defense in the third but luck was not on their side as they could not convert their point-blank attempts. Making matters worse, DBTC also struggled from the free throw line, making only 9 of 18 in the third.

DBTC regained composure in the final period behind the efforts of David James Cinco, Clarito Hernando Jr., Jan Pons Geraga and Jefford Aldave but CIT-U managed to hang on.

Jose Allan Dimco finished with 20 points and Arnel Ipang had 14 for CIT-U before fouling out. Aldave topscored for DBTC with 20 and Geraga finished with 16 points.

Meanwhile, there will be two interesting matches today at the Cebu Coliseum.

A much-improved Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons will try to exorcise the ghost of last season as they face the team that beat them by 131 points—the University of Cebu Baby Webmasters—at 4:30 p.m. while the Wildcats will be up against the resurgent University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors in the main game at 6 p.m.
