City inspects 100 vehicles

MORE than a hundred of service vehicles and response units from the different barangays in Cebu City were inspected

yesterday at the city’s motor pool.

This was in response to the memorandum of mayor Michael Rama the other day to make sure the city’s vehicles are roadworthy.

The inspection was an offshoot of the spate of vehicular accidents that happened in Cebu recently that killed 40 people and injured several others.

Engineer Rene Bacalso, the Transportation Regulation officer of the city’s motor pool, said they inspected over a hundred vehicles yesterday.

Bacalso said they prioritized vehicles from the barangays, like ambulances, mini buses, fire trucks, among others, as per the mayor’s order.

Among the vehicles inspected yesterday were from Barangays Busay, Inayawan, Binaliw, Basak San Nicolas, Mambaling and Poblacion Pardo.

Bacalso said all of the vehicles they inspected were in good running condition, although some had minor defects.

“The vehicles are roadworthy although some failed the smoke belching test and had busted lights,” Bacalso said.

He said the drivers were informed of the defects and advised to schedule their vehicles for repair at the motor pool.

Bacalso said it will take them time to inspect all the city-owned vehicles, considering there are hundreds of them.

These include garbage trucks, dump trucks, fire trucks, heavy equipment, buses, police cars and other cars detailed to different City Hall offices.

Rama visited the motor pool at the start of the inspection yesterday and also asked the one in-charge for an inventory of all city-owned vehicles.

While at the motor pool, the mayor ordered an organization of the motor pool.

“You have to do something that it becomes pleasant to your eyes…and the whole so-called motor pool should carry and subscribe sa tul-iron ang hiwi, ninduton ang bati, wagtangon ang baho, limpyuhon ang hugaw ug han-ayon ang gubot,” Rama said.

Meanwhile, the mayor reiterated his instruction that the use of Kaohsiung buses will only be limited to Metro Cebu or up to Danao City in the north and Carcar City in the south and in Mactan Island.

Rama added the buses will be allowed to travel up to Busay’s barangay hall, Agsungot or Cambinocot in the city’s mountain barangays.

The mayor is worried about the condition of the donated buses and he doesn’t want the vehicles to travel in areas with steep or elevated roads.
