TELESERYE. There is an upcoming teleserye that Cebu Catholic Television Network (CCTN) is cooking up for maiden airing on July 12. Misteryo Sa Kalipay is currently filming with Restie Jumao-as Nur as writer-director. As one of the actors in the show, I am familiar with the teleserye’s plot but I will never divulge anything here because we want you to watch its daily airing and discover why Misteryo Sa Kalipay is a must-see TV fare. All I can say is that it is about the importance of responsible parenthood which is always relevant as a social issue.

STARS. Misteryo Sa Kalipay is my formal comeback to the acting arena after another CCTN teleserye, Parola, ended a few months back. The other stars involved in Misteryo are Mina Richie Sangutan, Kyle Paras, Shanine Julianne Nur, Charito Abellar, Bernie Pilapil, Dondon Bituin Paras and Dondon Alueta. It’s nice working with other people that are very cooperative and have the heart to uplift the Cebuano artistry.

CEBUANA. Irma Adlawan is doing well as a film and stage actress based in Manila, but maybe only a few of us know that she is actually a true-blue Cebuana. Adlawan is from Minglanilla, in case you didn’t know. She is married to Dennis Marasigan, an award-winning writer-director who is competing in the sixth edition of Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival. His full-length entry is titled Vox Populi (Siya Ang Meyor Ko) with his actress-wife playing the lead role as a mayoralty candidate in a rural town.

ELECTIONS. It was actress Suzette Ranillo, another Cebuana (she is the daughter of veteran actress Gloria Sevilla), who e-mailed me everything about Vox Populi. I gathered that this indie film reflects the election concerns of the Filipinos and offers insights on the way local elections are conducted.

HAPPY. Marasigan stressed that he is very happy with the other members of the cast whom he has assembled for Vox Populi.

According to him, Ranillo is ever so accommodating, denying the fact that she is also an award-winning actress. She is unforgettable in Aliw, the 1979 classic drama on urban prostitutes.

HOPE. We Cebuanos hope that Vox Populi, which has at least two Cebuano stars in it, will do well in the competition slated on July 9-18 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. “My indie entry takes a real-time approach with all the events happening in one whole day, which is the last day of the electoral campaign,” Marasigan disclosed.

SONGS. The Cebu Arts Foundation Inc. is reminding songwriters that they have until July 15 to submit their original entries to next year’s Cebu Popular Music Festival. Entry forms are now available at the University of the Visayas alumni office.

Screening of entries (for the magic 12) will be in August.

LOSING. This family-owned corporation is fast losing its trusted personnel, including the two children of its owner who used to hold sensitive positions. Getting the blame is the company owner, a local politician. (E-mail: samcost@yahoo.com or call/text 09163999909)
