CV police ready for Holy Week

THE Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 will coordinate with other agencies for their security and order plan for the Holy Week.

PRO 7 Director Lani-o Nerez said all their preparations for the Holy Week are in place and that they will be focusing on areas where people are expected to converge.

He identified these areas as ports and terminals, as passengers will be lining up to spend their Lenten holidays in their hometowns or in resorts out of the city.

Police stations will include churches in their security plans.

As for bikini shows and other programs that tend to demean women, Nerez said the Cebu Provincial Police Office has been tasked to make sure these shows do not occur within Cebu Province, as ordered by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Nerez assured they are ready for the holidays and will not require the augmentation of the Regional Mobile Group (RMG) to the police offices. He said they are preparing the RMG for their role in the elections this May.

The PNP will ask the Land Transportation Office and the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) to send their personnel to join the police in their assistance desks, which will be set up in different parts of the province.

He said they could assist the police in addressing complaints of passengers.

Nerez also warned police chiefs not to forget about securing their own police stations.

He said they must not lose sight of their duties to guard vital installations, economic key points and places of convergence, as criminal elements may decide to pull heists while they are busy guarding churches.
