MARY Grace Delos Santos and Adonis Singson ruled the premier 10K division of the Energizer night race last Saturday at the Parkmall, Mandaue City.
Delos Santos clocked 34:52 to win the race.
However she said there were some glitches in the measurement of the distance and also wondered why the runners in the different divisions started the race together.
“Nganu gidungan man ug buhi ang mga 5K ug 3K sa 10K? Anyway, kung sakto lang gyud ang distance sa route nila possible personal record gyud nako gabii, even though naglisod ko sa second loop but the whole experience OK lang to para nako,” Delos Santos said
Delos Santos was followed by Madelyn Carter at 35:22, while Geryl Rose Baylon settled for third place with 42:04.
On the other hand, Singson won the 10K title in the absence of Simon Losiaboi, who joined the 5K.
“Training hard and right attitude are the secret ingredients to achieve your goal. I was happy that I finally won and I improved my record ,” said Adonis, who regularly places third to fifth in the other races.
Adonis was trailed by Alvirg Busa (32:12) and John Philip Duenas (32:34).
Losiaboi opted to race in the 5K division and won after posting 16:59. Jess Gonzaga (17:24) and Riez Enriquez (17:50) took second and third.
Death
In the 5K women’s division, Mary Joy Tabal won the title with 20:49, while Crizel Diongson (21:49) and Joeyry Lee (22:02) took second and third.
Aiza Suaybaguio and Jorry Ycong also dominated the 3K divisions.
Suaybaguio secured the top post after clocking 11:16, beating Lorna C. Olarita (11:57) and Sharon D. Vega (12:02) for the title. Ycong posted an impressive 9:34 to beat Ian Bernido (9:42) and James Noval (10:39).
However, the success of the night race was marred by the death of a runner in the Mandaue City District Hospital. The runner collapsed at the finish line and was rushed to the hospital.
He recovered but he tried to run away from his nurses and eventually met an accident that resulted to his death.
