Domingo, Banal co-headline May card

MICHAEL Domingo has been turned down in two world title fights; that is why his handlers at the ALA Promotions are taking matters in their own hands as they plan to improve Domingo’s ranking in the world ratings with a Cebu promotion on May 1 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.

ALA Promotions is planning to headline the 30-year-old Domingo in a blockbuster card against an elite opponent in hopes of upping his status in the world ratings and that he’ll eventually become a mandatory challenger in any of the four major boxing sanctioning bodies.

Up-and-coming boxer AJ Banal will also co-headline the card.

“We have not picked out their opponents but we will surely get rated opponents for Domingo and Banal. We will have their names within the week after we finalize the details,” said ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer.

Domingo was rejected by both World Boxing Organization bantamweight titlist Fernando Montiel and International Boxing Federation bantamweight king Yohnny Perez.

On the other hand, Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista and Milan Melindo will be seeing action in Dubai this April.

“Boom-Boom might fight in April if his injury will not recur,” said Aldeguer.

Bautista, 23, was sidelined again after feeling pain on his surgically repaired left wrist.
