AFTER Colombian Luis Melendez, who ended the career of his friend Z Gorres, Michael Domingo is eyeing a fight with Vic “The Raging Bull” Darchinyan.
Domingo, who had two world title fights with world champions Fernando Montiel and Yohnny Perez failing to materialize, said his style is suited for Darchinyan.
“His style is very fit for me,” Domingo said in Cebuano during a visit to Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
If he can’t get Darchinyan, Domingo wants Montiel or even Perez.
“Maski kinsa sa ila, basta kung kinsa ra ang ma-una,” said Domingo, who once thought of retiring from boxing five years ago when he kept losing.
Before Domingo (39-14-2) can entertain thoughts of a lucrative fight with the Raging Bull, he has to overcome Melendez (26-5) at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino on May 23.
And he’s more than ready to take on the fight for his friend
“I’m already 100 percent ready,” Domingo said. “If I will just keep my focus, I know I can beat him.”
Domingo said one thing that Gorres keeps telling him is not to let his guard down in the fight.
“Dili lang gyud ta mukumpyansa,” said Domingo.
Gorres was well ahead on points against Melendez but was tagged with a punch in the last 15 seconds. He got down and managed to beat the count but collapsed after the fight.
In the undercard, Jimrez Jaca, who knocked out Domingo in their fight 10 years ago, will be in his second fight into his comeback bid against Kenyan James Kimori.
Jaca (29-6) said he is very thankful that he is now with ALA Promotions.
“Lahi ra gyud ang training sa ALA, wala katunga tung training nako sa una,” said Jaca.
Meanwhile, Chad Cañares of ALA Promotions, said he is appealing for local fans to support the two boxers. He also added tickets for the first two VIP rows have already been sold out.
