AFTER more than two years from their first encounter, world champions Nonito Donaire and Vic Darchinyan will have a chance to finally settle their score on Aug. 7 at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.
Darchinyan, the World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion, has been chasing a rematch with Donaire ever since he lost for the first time in 2007.
Darchinyan lost his International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Association flyweight titles in a fifth round stoppage in 2007.

“Donaire is going to fight a tune-up fight on May 15 and then he’s going to fight Darchinyan in Los Angeles at the Home Depot Center on August 7,” Top Rank’s Bob Arum, Donaire’s promoter, said in a report at philboxing.com.
However, the fight isn’t a done deal yet as Darchinyan’s camp hasn’t given a go signal to Shaw, who already handed the proposal to the Armenian’s manager Elias Nasser last week.
In Donaire’s recent visit to Cebu City last month, to hand fellow Filipino fighter Z Gorres and his family a sum of P350,000 in assistance, the 27-year-old two-division world champion said that he is open to a rematch with Darchinyan.
Donaire also plans to move to the bantamweight division and face either World Boxing Organization champion Fernando Montiel or Eric Morel, if the Darchinyan fight falls off.
Donaire last fight was a third-round knockout victory over Mexican Manuel Vargas in his interim WBA super flyweight title defense in the blockbuster last month.
On the other hand, Darchinyan successfully defended his twin world crowns in a 12-round unanimous decision over Rodrigo Guerrero earlier this month.
