The Bogo City council passed an ordinance prohibiting the use of mobile communication devices while driving any vehicle.

Violators will be fined P500 for every offense, under the Mobile Communication Devices Safety Ordinance.
The ordinance is now with the committee on laws and review of ordinances chaired by Cebu Provincial Board (PB) Member Peter John Calderon.
Mayor Celestino Martinez Jr. approved the ordinance last Dec. 28 yet. It was published last January for public information.
“Poor driving performance while conversing through any mobile communication device, whether hand-held or hands-free, is confirmed in numerous studies” to be a source of distraction, the Bogo City measure said.
“Using mobile or cellular phones and hands-free sets on the road distracts driver’s concentration and focus, making it one of the most common causes of vehicular accidents in the country.”
The council said the ordinance covers both public and private vehicles.
Prohibited acts include composing, sending or reading text messages and talking on the cell phone.
Police, emergency service providers, media practitioners and those in contact with them are exempted from the ordinance in the event of an emergency.
