CONSIDERED as the biggest entertainment event this week is happening tonight at the Pacific grand ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino starting at 8 p.m.
This is the concert of two icons in the Philippine music industry: Ely Buendia and Rico Blanco, former vocalists of the Eraserheads and Rivermaya, respectively. The two are expected to perform the big hits of their respective groups like With A Smile, Pare Ko, Toyang, Ligaya, Huling El Bimbo, Alapaap, Magasin, Torpedo, Overdrive and Maling Akala for Ely; and, 214, Hinahanap-hanap Kita, Himala, Ulan, Kisapmata, Elesi, Awit ng Kabataan and Umaaraw Umuulan for Rico.
Let’s see if the two can still elicit the shrieks and screams of adulation they used to enjoy some years back.
Bb. Pilipinas-Supranational Mutya Datul started the ball rolling by winning the Ms. Supranational 2013 title last weekend. I hope the victory will augur a winning streak among the nation’s representatives in the international beauty arena, the nearest of which is the Ms. World 2013 in Indonesia. Movie-TV star Megan Lynn Young is the Philippines’ representative.
In the video of the pageant’s opening, Megan is one of the prettiest faces. Hopefully she’ll succeed in pursuing the crown that continues to be just a breath away as far as the Filipinas are concerned.
After the Ms. World, there will still be the Ms. Universe and the Ms. Tourism International pageants. Hopefully, the girls’ hard work and perseverance will be rewarded accordingly.
Maricel Soriano and Eugene Domingo portray two warring mothers who will do everything just to prove that their family is better than the other. This is in the comedy masterpiece of award-winning director Wenn V. Deramas, Momzillas.
Momzillas is co-produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films and will be shown in cinemas nationwide starting Sept. 18. Playing the roles of the two comedian’s offspring are Billy Crawford and Andi Eigenmann.
Also in the cast are Candy Pangilinan, Joey Paras, Atak, Mel Martinez, Eagle Riggs, Paul Jake Castillo, Christian Vasquez, Luz Valdez and Divina Valencia.
Eight young artists from the northern part of Cebu province were chosen by a distinguished panel of judges to advance to the finals in the Halad sa Kabataan 2013 next month.
For the vocal duet, the new finalists are Rex Anthony Suico and Cathy Capangpangan (San Remegio) and Orlando Murillo and Champagne Tepan (Bogo City). For the guitar duet, the finalists are Jun Aldrich Layague and Jethryl Fritz Alarde (San Remegio), and Horrace Sayson and Isabelo Lauron Jr. (Catmon).
Halad sa Kabataan, an annual project of the Provincial Council for the Welfare of Children, will be held at the Cebu Cultural Center on Oct. 18.
For the first time, a grueling sports event will be witnessed further down south of Cebu province, that is, in the town where whale shark watching has brought a new livelihood to the residents of Oslob.
Hunat Sugbo triathlon will be happening on Oct. 6 together with another event, the Sangka sa Kaha, a cooking (or baking) competition. Being an Oslobanon, I’m glad that such an event will be held there which of course will bring tourists to discover the beauty of the place and experience the hospitality of the residents.
A similar event was planned years before but budgetary constraints prevented it from materializing. I’m glad Cebu Parklane Hotel made the event a reality this time.
I could just shake my head when the news about the latest sex scandal involving show biz personalities broke out. It kept me wondering why these people seem not to learn from past occurrences.
The act is supposed to be a private affair, so why record it in the first place? To satisfy their narcissistic tendencies perhaps? But why not delete the files once the craving has been satisfied? Or was the craving satisfied at all?
Needless to say, by keeping the files, it is expected that sooner or later these will be uncovered and exposed. For show biz denizens whose careers can be adversely affected by such happening, why take such risk?
Or are there other reasons for doing so? Puzzling.
