A TWO-TIME best actor awardee, an undisputed box-office queen and one of the hottest young actor-matinee idol of today, will team up for the first time for a movie project that’s expected to excite moviegoers once again, so says promo diva Josie Pereyra.
Dingdong Dantes, Bea Alonzo and Enrique Gil are the lead stars of Star Cinema’s latest offering, She’s The One. Directed by Mae Cruz, She’s The One revolves around the three characters where one pushes a best friend into a complicated situation to save his career only to realize later that it may be too late to undo things.
Upcoming screen sweetheart Liza Soberano is also in this movie where she portrays her biggest, most important and most challenging role so far. She’s The One will hit movie house nationwide starting Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Once again, people from the media and other mature guests enjoyed the feeling of being young and carefree at the Ayala Center Cebu activity area last Saturday. The guests tried to shoot a ball, hit a loop on a stake and hit a balloon with a dart and eventually receive a stub equivalent to a scoop of ice cream as prize.
In addition to the already taste-bud teasing flavors, the thought that the prize was “hard-earned” made the prize even sweeter.
The event was the launching of Blue Bell Ice Cream that originated in Brenham, Texas, USA, over a 100 years ago. Blue Bell Creameries used to be called Brenham Creamery Co. when it started.
Aside from the name, a lot has changed in the company but “the quality of the ice cream hasn’t changed a bit.” Another product (among many others) that we also loved during the launch was the ice cream sandwich.
For the first time, the quiet and peaceful southern town of Oslob erupted in thrill and excitement as the Hunat Sugbo Triathlon was held there last Sunday.
Over 400 triathletes competed in the standard and relay categories. The participants braved the wind that caused big waves to batter the shoreline for the 1.5 km. swim leg that started as early as 8 a.m.
The following 40 km. bike route stretched from the town proper up north to the first barangay of neighboring Boljoon town. The run leg wound at some of the town’s streets and ended at the historic Baluarte or watchtower inside the scenic Cuartel Heritage Park.
Oslob residents, guests, supporters and kin of the triathletes cheered at the start and finish areas as well as at the sides of the bike and run routes.
While the athletes were doing their lung-busting thing, four lady bakers tried to outdo each other in coming up with the best-tasting podrida, a baked delicacy that has a sweet filling, in the 4th Sangka sa Kaha a few meters from the bike and run transition areas.
The contest had a cash prize at stake and also drew interested onlookers who later partook of the finished products after the judging. Needless to say, the event was a huge success.
The cast of Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir, its director Francis Villacorta, exec producers Ida Tiongson and Wil Fredo, publicist Mell Navarro and others came to Cebu for a three-day shoot and to promote the movie itself.
The stars who came were lead actor Rocco Nacino, Christian Vasquez, Jojo de Guerra, Arthur Solinap, Carlo Gonzales, Robert Correa, Johan Santos, Juancho Traviño, Alvin Aragon and former child star BJ “Tolits” Forbes.
Also in the cast are Jestoni Alarcon, Ryan Eigenmann, Victor Basa, Miko Palanca, Andrew Schimmer, Geoff Taylor, Johnron Tañada, Mercedes Cabral and Isadora Velasquez.
In the presscon, Rocco admitted that despite his being a born again, he felt overwhelmed and cried when they visited the chapel of the Visayan saint and touched the feet of his statue. The others have also felt the same.
Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir is an entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival. Direk Francis collated everything in his research including the accounts of Msgr. Leyson and other authors. He describes it as “a project of faith” that’s “part history, part evangelization and full of human story.” Let’s support this when it comes to local movie houses in December.
