WOW! We’re inching closer to the homestretch of the year as the month of November makes its grand entrance with the celebration of the All Saints’ Day. Because of this, the entire nation is once again enjoying a long weekend.

Which Halloween event did you grace? Did it live up to your expectation? Did you meet interesting people?

Being born and raised as a Catholic, I’ll be visiting my departed loved ones today and tomorrow. For those buried in other cemeteries, they’ll be visited soon after.

With the belief that the days of the so-called “ber” months flying so fast, the whole Christendom will once again be commemorating the birth of the Savior in less than two months.

So, have you already started your Christmas shopping? Have you identified what gifts to give to the people you love?

Are you done decorating your residence and its vicinity? Do you have a particular theme or motif in the decors that you mounted? Did you buy new decors or had just recycled the ones from Christmases past?

Does it sound like a tough job? Take it easy. As mentioned above, the much-anticipated season is still a little over a month away. You still have enough time but you also need to start as soon as possible.

One of the much awaited events this month is the coronation of the new Miss Universe in Moscow, Russia. The Philippines’ representative, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2013 Ariella Arida, has so far been making her presence felt in the pre-pageant activities.

She has landed in the 25 top models group. She has also been chosen as one of the four models for the Mercedez Benz advertorial side by side with Misses Germany, Poland and Germany, as the only non-European in the group.

Based on her looks, height and intelligence (she graduated from college with honors), it would be safe to say that she has all the chances of making it to the Magic 5 or, better still, snatch the coveted crown.

To recall, some stars of the movie San Pedro Calungsod, Batang Martir— produced by HPI Synergy Group headed by Ida Tiongson, in association with Wings Entertainment—flew in to Cebu to shoot some scenes and to solicit support from the Visayan moviegoers when the movie will be released in December as one of the entries in the Metro Manila Film Festival.

It boasts of a bevy of good-looking actors like Rocco Nacino who plays the title role; Christian Vazquez who plays the role of Spanish Jesuit priest Fr. Diego de San Vitores; Jestoni Alarcon, Ryan Eigenmann, Robert Correa, Alvin Aragon, Victor Basa, Carlo Gonzalez, Arthur Solinap, Miko Palanca, Andrew Schimmer, Geoff Taylor, Johan Santos, Isadora Valasquez, BJ Forbes, Juancho Triviño, Johnron Tañada and Mercedes Cabral.

You must have noticed that most of the cast members are mestizos, which is understandable as they play the roles of either Spanish priests or soldiers. That is not to say though that the other actors are physically less attractive as the lead actor himself is a looker.

His “co-cathechists,” like Johan Santos, BJ Forbes, Alvin Aragon and even Johnron Tañada who is plays a Chamorro native, are also blessed with good looks. This plus the interesting life story of the second Filipino and first Visayan saint, are sure come-ons in the box-office.

After a brief respite, The Jun Esma Show, which started as a radio variety show but metamorphosed into a well-watched TV show, will be resurfacing on television screens, this time over the Cebu Catholic Television Network in December.

Jun excitedly shared that he already has had initial negotiations with the channel’s top man, Tatay Dodong Limchua, who gave him the go signal.

I still have to get the details of the show though. Just keep posted.

Star Cinema is bent on keeping the tradition of churning out more than one entry in the Metro Manila Film Festival. If I remember right, two of its entries are the Vice Ganda starrer Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy and the Ryzza Mae-Bimby Yap topbilled movie My Little Bossings.

This early, Star Cinema is already optimistic that either of the two will end up as the film fest top-grosser.
