ROMANTIC comedy films sell plots with the unwritten rule of featuring hotshot couples. But times are a changing and the touchingly innovative film Kita Kita, starring acclaimed drama actress Alessandra de Rossi and steadily rising comedian Empoy Marquez, is trying to break the norm.
Yes, de Rossi and Marquez are bringing the "kilig" in this flick shot in Hokkaido, Japan.
Based on the teaser, de Rossi portrays a blind woman who is being taken care of by Marquez's character. They're in Japan; he obviously cares; she seems to fall, but she could not see him. Such plot ingredients make for a sumptuous film with the audience surely rooting for the two of them to end up together—even when the woman's sight comes back.
The two actors obviously have chemistry, prompting fans to call them: AlEmpoy. But it comes with taglines: “the millennial love team” and “ang love team na 'di mo inakala (the love team that you did not expect).”
Now playing in cinemas nationwide, Kita Kita marks the first time de Rossi and Marquez teamed up for a project. A follow-up AlEmpoy movie tackling a zombie apocalypse is in the works.
The film is directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, and produced by Spring Films and VIVA Films. (PR)
