‘GOT’ finale: End is near

Monday, August 28, 2017

NOW the long wait starts for “Game of Thrones” fans.

The penultimate season ended with the crash of the wall, which was the mystical structure that separated the living beings of the Seven Kingdoms and the undead. But with zombie Viserion flying about, the wall was finally defeated allowing the white walkers to invade the world.

Unfortunately, fans might have to wait until 2019 to see how this unfolds. There are rumors that the final season, which carries only six episodes, may be delayed. Could this be due to the leaked season eight scripts?

Anyway, here are the top five important events from the season finale:

  1. Stark sisters unite

Fans have been torn between rooting for queen-in-the-making Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) or the hardened assassin Arya Stark (Maisie Williams). But as this show has foreshadowed in the first season, if the Starks are together, they will survive: The lone wolf dies, but the pack survives. According to some viewing parties, the moment Arya cut off Petyr Baelish’s (Aidan Gillen) throat got the loudest cheer from the audience.

  2. Ice and fire

Before Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) even met on the show, fans were already shipping the two characters. Well, they finally got what they wanted as ice and fire united in bed in a cabin on a boat. Fans got to see Harington’s bum, too.

  3. Lannister siblings meet again

Those were some powerful words between Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage). It just shows that these are the two smartest people in Westeros. Unfortunately, one is ruthless and that spells the difference. The goodbye between incestuous siblings Cersei and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) was interesting, too.

  4. Meeting of power

That was the first time the major characters in the show ever shared screen time together: Dinklage, Headey, Coster-Waldau, Harington and Clarke.

  5. Bran and Sam

Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and Samwell Tarly (John Bradley-West) met again and together they figured out Jon Snow’s parentage. In the end, it was revealed that Jon Snow is actually Aegon Targaryen, the legitimate son of Rhaegar and Lyanna Targaryen. But isn’t that weird? Rhaegar named two of his sons Aegon? His son with first wife Elia was also named Aegon. (JGA)
