THE fun-loving side of me felt glad when I learned about the news that the iconic band of the Local Ground Era, BTU, is back. The group is responsible for the hit songs “Coat of Love” and “With You.”

BTU will be performing at the Pitstop Restaurant-Capitol Outlet on Oct. 14 starting 9 p.m. Aside from its own hits, BTU will also be performing covers of the hits of the ‘80s and ‘90s.

This early and on its first outing, the Binibining Cebu pageant is indeed living up to its tagline being “The Biggest. The Grandest. The Most Prestigious.” The past Philippine terno, swimsuit and evening gown competitions can attest to that.

In the recent evening gown tilt, the stage design was awesome. From the famous designer Cary Santiago, the concept was a fusion of his and award-winning furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue’s creative juices.

It had the theme Femme Fatale. The candidates sashayed on the beautifully executed stage design to the music of the Cebu Philharmonic Orchestra with singers Radha Cuadrado, Joanna “JJ” Jane Ang and Benjamin “Benjie” Layos.

Expect an even grander production on coronation night on Oct. 28.

Piolo Pascual was in town last Sept. 29. Although his latest Star Cinema-Spring Films starrer “Last Night” with Toni Gonzaga opened in other cinemas nationwide two days earlier, in the CitiMall Consolacion Cinema, the movie was shown during its inauguration.

The cinema formally opened with Piolo, CitiMall president Ferdinand Sia, Mayor Teresa Alegado and ABS-CBN Film Productions theatrical booking and operations manager Gerry Ocampo cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

Piolo delighted fans with a mini-show. Complimentary tickets to the inaugural showing of “Last Night” were distributed during the program.
