IT WAS as usual a fun-filled affair. Bubbly GM Paul Hans of Korean Air hosted a dinner for some selected travel agents at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.
He was in a happy and sentimental mood as he expressed his joy over the support he has been getting from his travel partners, and hoped to have more.

Paul has been based in Cebu for nearly three years but will be relinquishing his position when the appropriate time comes in 2011. Paul is a hard act to follow and whoever takes his place has a big task ahead of him.
Meanwhile, the jolly travel agents would like to make good their promise of constant patronage of Korean Air. How’s that for a thought, Paul?
Fun learning
The nursery and kinder angels had their days of playing and learning during the Speechcom summer program. They sang, danced, drilled on English phonology, and did artworks and spelling.
At the Power Development in Rivergate, a big number of nursing students had rigid review sessions. Meanwhile, Asian College of Technology has refurbished its HRM (hotel resource management) facilities and initiated an internationally directed pre-school and grade schools. Kudos to the educational foresight of politician and educator Bebot Abellanosa. The MSA Academic Advancement Institute had its hands full of high school students taking initial preparations for college.
Well, education is still the best investment for future careers. It is a legacy one can hand down to the next generation.
People at STI
The last People Enhancing Opportunities Propelling Leadership Excellence (People) success story, a year-long project of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) on tourism and culture, was held at STI-Lahug. The long journey of Dr. Felipe Embalzado—from a janitorial job at University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) in 1965, to a college course, then teaching and deanship of the HRM Dept. at the University of Cebu; enriched by successful work in the F&B Dept. at Celebrity and Montebello Villa Hotel, and finally as head of HRM and Business departments at the Benedicto College—will always be a model to aspiring students.
The other awardee, Socrates Misoles, demonstrated how hard work and perseverance guided his quest to be an entrepreneur and educator as well as a civic leader. The second season of People will be launched at SM Cinema I, 4 p.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, June 19. It’s free admission. It will feature local and national artists from co-sponsor GMA7. In addition, there will be something on role models and success stories. SM City Cebu and Sun.Star Cebu are major partners.
