Espina: Ylac journeying together

THE Ylac (the Young Ladies’ Association of Charity Inc.) had a jolly and insightful 27th “National Biennial Convention” on April 23-25, at the Grand Hotel. It had the moving theme, “Journeying Together in Faith, Service and Holiness.”

YLAC LEGACY. The San Nicolas Ylac Unit members. Seated (from left) Ylac 27th host officers Lydia Abelarde, Elizabeth Tepait, Anita Uy, Dr. Anita Sanchez, Elsa Legaspi and Nessie Daganda, with members and staff (all standing).

Hosted by the San Nicolas Ylac Unit, Cebu City, the gathering was well-attended by some the regional officers and members representing the National Capital Region, Northern and Southern Luzon, Western Visayas, Central and Eastern Visayas. It was led by spiritual advisers, Fr. Frank Vargas, CM, and Fr. Raul Go; ex-officio member Susana de la Cruz; advisers, past presidents Ma. Melinda Bernardino, Aleli Quirino, Anita Sanchez (who ably chaired, coordinated and directed the events); Primitiva Antigua, Dahlia Tubilla, Consuelo Uy and Gregoria Atillo.

The crowning glory of the convention was the endearing message of the keynote speaker, Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, who exhorted the unparalleled leadership and service of the group, who remained young and robust for almost three decades. Added to this were the words of special guest, Vice Mayor Mike Rama, who said that he has always admired the high level of endurance demonstrated by Ylac.

The highlights of this big gathering were the fellowship night; the plenary sessions, which tackled a meaty delineation of the theme; the search for the “Ylac Queen of Charity”; the “Need to Know” sessions on the Ylac vision and projects as well as membership enrichment; and the business meetings and elections. (More on these in my next articles.)

An icon and a Perlas Awardee as “Valuable Charitable Institution,” Ylac has definitely carved its legacy and will continue to inspire many to work zealously for the youth.
