REGION 7’s bid for a better finish in the Palarong Pambansa hit a speed bump as the final list of delegation was delayed because of conflict of schedules.

The Palarong Pambansa will be held earlier than the usual because of the elections. However, the time when the athletes should be training, coincided with important academic events—the Regional Assessment Test (Rat), which held up the finalization of the list of athletes.

The selected athletes were supposed to train together before the Palaro. But the Department of Education officials got busy with the Rat, which sidelined the Palaro preparation for a little while.

“The Rat is very important so we will have to finish this before we finalize the Palaro list and other details of our Tarlac trip,” said resource mobilization special programs and projects chief Vivian Ginete.

As a safety measure, Ginete said, they have asked the different winners of the Palaro to start training on their own so that their momentum will not be stalled and the
athletes will still be prepared for the Palaro,” said Ginete.

Ginete said the officials are also still ironing out the kinks of the preparation, including their mode of transfer from Cebu to Tarlac. “We still need to decide whether we will go by boat or plane and when exactly the delegation will be going,” said Ginete.

The Palarong Pambansa is on April 11 to 17 in Tarlac. Region 7 has placed fourth in the over-all tally in the past few years.
