Sinulog Foundation to hold painting tilt on Dec. 12

LOVERS of visual arts, bring forth your brushes and palettes, and prepare for your imagination to be translated onto a blank canvas as the Sinulog Foundation Inc. will hold an “On-the-Spot-Painting” competition on Dec. 12 at Fort San Pedro near Plaza Indepedencia in Cebu City.
The competition carries the theme, “Cebu, City of Culture.”
The rules and regulations are:

• The competition is open to all Filipino painters of all ages.
• A participant is allowed only one entry, interaction pieces or group efforts will not be accepted.
• The entry may either be oil or acrylic on canvas, or watercolor paper.
• Mixed media, collages, assemblages, sculptures, tarpaulin or digital prints will not be accepted.
• The sizes of the entry should be 16’’x 20’’, 20’’ x 16’’, 18’’x24’’, and 24’’x 18’’.
• The participants may render the common theme of “Cebu, City of Culture” in any style (Renaissance, Gothic, Baroque, Impressionist, Fauvist, Cubist, Surrealist, Realist, Super-Realist, and Social Realist).
• Non-figurative abstract paintings will not be accepted.
• All entries must be signed and dated. With a piece of paper posted at the back bearing necessary details such as the artist’s name, address, contact numbers, entry title, size, medium, and gallery price. Entries with incomplete information will not be accepted.
• Registration will start at exactly 9:30 a.m.
• The competition proper is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• The artist must submit a properly accomplished official entry form containing a 1x1 photo of the artist, biodata or curriculum vitae.
• All entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Fort San Pedro National Coliseum at the port area in Cebu City.
• The decision of the screening panel and the board of judges shall be final.
• The names of finalists will be announced at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, and the finalists will be requested to have their artworks properly framed in preparation for the exhibition. This must be submitted on the day of the competition.
• The awarding ceremony and the opening of the exhibition of finalists shall be at the Fort San Pedro National Museum at 6 p.m. of Dec. 12. All participants are invited to attend.
• The artworks can be taken back on Jan. 16, 2012 at the Sinulog Hall from 2-5 p.m.
• All top three winning entries shall become the property of Sinulog Foundation Inc.
• The Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission, Sinulog Foundation or any of the institutions/ agencies involved in the implementation of the competition shall not be held liable for any damage to the artwork as a result of the competition and exhibition, or the failure of the participant to follow the rules and regulations.
• The criteria for judging are relevance to the theme (40 percent), creativity and originality (20 percent), composition and visual impact (20 percent), and technique (20 percent).
The first prize winner will get P20,000 cash and a trophy; second prize is P10,000 cash and a trophy; and third prize is P5,000 and a trophy. There will be seven honorable mentions who will get P2,000 each and a certificate.

This painting contest is just one of the many events lined up for Sinulog 2012. Other events are the Sinulog Idol, Festival Queen, Short Film Festival and Photo Contest.
